Affirmations will host its annual Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ferndale LGBT center. This year’s fair will include free basic health, vision and glaucoma screenings, STD testing and adult immunizations. Affirmations will also feature guest speaker Elaine M. Grohman, local author and certified Healing Touch practitioner.
“It has been a sincere pleasure to organize this year’s annual Health and Wellness Fair,” says London Bell, Affirmations Health and Human Services
coordinator. “The fair enforces the strong community commitment to provide a safe space for the LGBT community to access free and low-cost health services. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.”
This year’s fair includes Biomed Specialty Pharmacy as its primary sponsor, as well as one of the many businesses that will be represented throughout the day.
Others include FernCare Free Clinic and Detroit Legal Services, Inc.
Volunteer providers, such as pharmacy students from the Wayne State Department of Pharmacy Practice, Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Services, Shanbom Eye Specialists and the Oakland County Health Division will also be on-hand. In addition, community organizations such as World Medical Relief, Jewish Gay Network of Michigan and Adult Well-Being Services will provide organizational and health related literature and information.
