The winner of the Mr. Detroit Eagle Contest, which runs from Nov. 16 to 17, will go on to compete in the 30th Anniversary International Mr. Leather competition in Chicago next Memorial Day weekend.
Friday night will be an informal “Meet and Greet” where patrons can meet the contestants and judges sponsored by the leather club ICON Detroit, with the actual contest taking place on Saturday night. Contestants will appear on stage in three rounds: bar/cruise wear, the popular jockstrap round and “full leather,” and will answer a question in each round.
The contest also includes a pre-contest interview with the judges.
The winner of the contest will receive a prize package that includes accommodations at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago for the 2008 IML competition, a “Mr. Detroit Eagle 2008” leather vest, as well as free cover at all Detroit Eagle events for the next year and a bar tab.
This year’s judging panel will include International Mr. Boot Black Spot, Mr. Michigan Leather 2008 Randy Wrysinger, MCC Detroit pastor Rev. Mark Bidwell, Detroit leatherman John Lawson and current Mr. Detroit Eagle Bryan Parker.
During his title year, Parker visited 27 leather bars and events across the U.S. and Canada, raised funds for a number of local and national LGBT charities. Parker placed sixth out of the 52 contestants in the preliminary rounds of IML making him one of the top-20 finalists that then competed in the final rounds of the International Mr. Leather competition held in the historic Chicago Theater last May. “Representing the Detroit Eagle and Detroit leather community for the past year has been an honor,” said Parker in a statement. “I am looking forward to giving up the sash so that another deserving Detroit leatherman can have an amazingly memorable year like I did.”
Contestant applications will be accepted through Nov. 16. For more information, visit the Detroit Eagle or e-mail Bryan Parker at [email protected]
