Inside Antoni Porowski’s Sexy Food Fantasy with His Michigan Boyfriend
‘Queer Eye’ star shares his recipe for love: ground beef, bone broth and a splash of sriracha
Since 2018, Antoni Porowski has made food look downright seductive — a drizzle of olive oil here, a slow stir there. But these days, the “Queer Eye” food-and-wine expert says his idea of a “sexy food fantasy” has evolved.
“At this stage of life that I'm in right now, it’s very different than it was a couple of years ago,” Porowski told Pride Source recently. “For the first time, I'm in a relationship where — I can’t even believe I’m saying this — we actually cook together. This has never happened, except in one relationship a long, long time ago.”
That new relationship is with Michigan native Zacharias Niedzwiecki, a 33-year-old fitness coach and former opera singer who has seemingly inspired Porowski to turn up the heat — in the kitchen and beyond. The pair went Instagram-official over the summer with a sun-drenched yacht photo snapped somewhere in the Mediterranean, before trading the sea for the shores of Traverse City, where they cozied up with Porowski’s rescue dog, Neon. (Porowski told Pride Source that not only is Traverse City “incredible,” he’s also fond of Ann Arbor, which he called “beautiful.”)
But while his romance with Niedzwiecki may look picture-perfect, the real intimacy, Porowski says, happens over a cutting board.
“Cooking for me at home has become less performative and more of a collaborative conversation,” he explained. “We literally sit down and discuss what the meal is going to look like — what’s our fantasy? What do we want to play out? Then doing it together. There’s something really beautiful, and there’s an intimacy there that I can’t believe I’ve never really experienced. It’s sort of like, wow — this is really hot and really amazing. When you get to do that together, it makes it less of a single-man performance and makes it more of a dance, if you will. And you want specifics? You want the full menu?”
Well, who are we to turn down an Antoni Porowski menu tease?
Describing a recent quick dinner with Niedzwiecki featuring beef in lettuce cups, he said, “So I did grass-fed ground beef; I cooked some sushi rice that I folded in. I cooked the sushi rice and bone broth just to get it really sticky with all of that collagen,” he says.
He then seasoned it with just a bit of oyster sauce and fish sauce and added a honey finish.
“We sat yesterday and it was surprisingly romantic, yet a dinner that came together in about 20 minutes,” he said. “We just stood at the counter eating butter lettuce cups with this meat and rice mixture, and I had herbs on the side of Thai basil and some nice spearmint and cilantro, if you're into that, and some chopped scallion and then you just drizzle some sriracha.”
“It was just food falling off the sides of our mouths,” he added. “I think that's pretty sexy, but that's what works in my household.”
From the Fab Five kitchen to the shores of Lake Michigan, Antoni Porowski has clearly found the right recipe — one part romance, one part collaboration, all served hot.
