Arcus Foundation announces Spring Cycle 2004 grant awards

KALAMAZOO – A record number of Southwest Michigan non-profit organizations earned grants from the Kalamazoo-based Arcus Foundation during its Spring 2004 award cycle.
"As the Foundation grows, it is encouraging and gratifying that we are able to partner with non-profit organizations to advance our mission of working toward diversity and dignity," said Linda May, Arcus Foundation Executive Director.
Founded in 2000 in Kalamazoo, the Arcus Foundation seeks to contribute to a pluralistic society that celebrates diversity and dignity, invests in youth and justice and promotes tolerance and compassion. The Arcus Foundation awards grants twice per year (Spring and Fall) and supports non-profit organizations.
The following are some of the organizations that were awarded grants from The Arcus Fund in the Spring 2004 funding cycle:
*American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan: $100,000 over two years in support of the GLBT Project in Michigan.
*Affirmations Lesbian and Gay Community Center: $450,000 over five years for the Open the Doors Capital and Endowment Campaign.
*American Friends Service Committee: $25,000 to expand the Faith Action Network.
*Kalamazoo Gay/Lesbian Resource Center: $3,500 to sponsor the Fifth Annual Coming Out Proud Film Festival.
*Michigan Equality Education Fund: $40,000 for general operating support and programs dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or non-conformance to gender stereotypes.
*Ruth Ellis Center: $20,000 for general operating support of Ruth's House, a transitional residence.
*Triangle Foundation: $60,000 over three years for general operations support.
