Art by Alexander in Cultural Center

By BTL Staff

Art pieces by community artist and BTL columnist Charles Alexander are currently featured in two separate art exhibits in Detroit's Cultural Center. His "Avatars," a mixed media work, took a third place award at the Scarab Club's Gold Medal Show, John R and Farnsworth, and "Recredobar," a fantasy composition based on a "naughty" Spanish limerick, is one of 40 works on display at the Main Branch of the Detroit Public Library. The latter creation is as part of the Wayne County-sponsored Artists Among Us 2003 series. (He has also been a part of AAU 2001 and AAU 2002.)
Alexander is schedule to have a one-person exhibit in April 2004 at the Oak Park Public Library. It will be his third exhibit there since 1993.
The special year-end Between The Lines "Year in Review" issue will feature a whimsical full-cover illustration by Alexander, who has contributed regularly as an artist to BTL. (His work has also been featured on five covers of Metro Times.) Three of his recent pieces are on sale at the Affirmations Pittman/Puckett Art Gallery as part of the Center's annual Holiday Art Show.
Twelve LGBT artists are represented in the exhibit, and a percentage of all sales benefits Affirmations.
