The University of Michigan’s Spectrum Center is excited to welcome Lauren Sherry as assistant director. She will work directly with Director Jackie Simpson in assisting and developing programming for U of M’s LGBT students, faculty and staff.
Sherry is a 2005 graduate of the College of Wooster and a 2007 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Social Work, where she completed her MSW in Interpersonal Practice with Children and Youth.
While at the School of Social Work, Sherry was heavily involved in the fabric of the LGBT life, reinvigorating the Rainbow Network at SSW. She also served as a
facilitator for the Spectrum Center’s Coming Out Group and worked extensively with LGBTQ youth at the Ruth Ellis Center, according to the center.
Currently, Sherry works with Wayne State University’s horizon project where she is an Adolescent HIV Consultant. The Spectrum Center looks forward to adding Sherry’s energy, strong community connections and creative outlook to their team.
Sherry’s first day is August 1. The Spectrum Center welcomes people in the community to come meet her.
The Spectrum Center would also like to thank all of the people who contributed their important feedback during the search process, especially Search Team members Gabriel Javier, chair, Vikram Shah, student, Robbie
Routenberg of the Program on Intergroup Relations and Jennifer Wegner of the School of Engineering.
The Spectrum Center is the University of Michigan’s office of LGBT affairs. The center provides information and works toward creating a safe and open campus space for LGBT students, staff and the community. Previously known as the University of Michigan’s Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs, the office changed their name to The Spectrum Center in late March.
