Former Detroit News journalist Jillian Bogater has joined Between The Lines as its new managing editor.
Bogater replaces D'Anne Witkowski, who left in July to pursue a master's degree in poetry at University of Michigan.
Before coming to BTL, Bogater worked for five years as an editor on the national desk at The Detroit News. She also served as unit chair for Local 22, the newspaper's union.
She brings an additional 10 years of journalism experience from working at The Oakland Press and other papers in Milford, Hillsdale, Plymouth and Cheboygan.
"Merging LGBT activism with old-school journalism has always been a dream of mine," she said.
Bogater, 36, earned a bachelor's degree in journalism with a minor in African studies at Central Michigan University. She's currently working on a second bachelor's degree in sign language studies at Madonna University.
She lives in Ferndale with her two dogs, Lili and Lexie.
