The 12th Annual DIY Street Fair

Coupling Fine art with contemporary, folk and graffiti is a DIY Street Fair staple, but just a part of its many offerings. Returning on Sept. 20 through 22 for its 12th year, attendees can expect to see their share of home goods, ceramics, glass work and much more when they walk through more than 150 vendors from across the state in Ferndale.

The Affirmations LGBTQ center will host royalty on Saturday, July 13, in a youth-focused "gender-bending" drag event. Lasting from noon to 6 p.m., in collaboration with Slay Inc. — a Detroit-based LGBTQ events company — attendees will be helped into drag as they learn more about the art form.

LGBTQ bear culture has long been about body positivity said Motor City Bear Rob Pearce — a member of the male-specific social club for bears and their admirers. That's why, when the opportunity arose to combine that concept with a charitable event, the group jumped at the chance and start the Motor City Bears Speedo Car Wash, this year held on Saturday, June 8, at the Level One bank on Woodward Ave. in Ferndale.
