Dear BTL,
Thank you for publishing Mubarak Dahir's excellent opinion piece "Fit to serve God?" (in the Sept. 8 2005 issue of BTL).
I am not a lesbian, and I am no longer a Roman Catholic. But I am a survivor of abuse by a Roman Catholic 'priest' when I was 15.
It is obvious to me that Mr. Dahir's simple statement that homosexuality is not the problem, (the problem is predators) is absolutely correct. The 'bishops' have to pin the blame somewhere, since they refuse to accept responsibility for their conspiracy of silence, and the gay community is currently under fire. That is most unfortunate and diametrically opposed to the message brought by Christ.
Mr. Dahir is also correct in stating that the Corporate Roman Catholic Church is one of the most powerful institutions in the world. As such, if it continues to pass judgment on all of God's creatures it will eventually die from corruption within.
Bless all of you and remember, it is the children of the future who need to be protected from predators of any kind!
