City of Detroit to hold day of health awareness events

The Michigan Department of Community Health, the city's division of Health, Wellness and Disease Control, the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion and the Wayne County Department of Public Health will join together to offer Detroiters an abundance of HIV/AIDS and health information in honor of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be over 20 area HIV/AIDS prevention services on site, as well as free anonymous HIV testing, STD screenings and additional health screenings, such as high blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and tuberculosis.
In addition, there will also be several local and state dignitaries on hand to commemorate the event, plus skits on HIV/AIDS issues performed by the Youth Development Institute. The Children's Hospital's Horizons Project will also present an HIV/AIDS educational workshop.
All events will take place in the Northwest Activities Center in Detroit and are free.
