News at the Center:
Gay American Smoke Out
Come celebrate the 3rd annual Gay American Smoke Out with Affirmations Lesbian Gay Community Center as we host a smoke free night at Q! Dance and be merry while breathing easy! Non-smokers have been saying for years they’d love to see more bars go smoke free (a Gay article actually shows that LGBT non-smokers are more than willing to pay more to have a bar go smoke free!) and even many smokers say that the bars are too smoke filled! Smokers: take your last drag and come along! Everybody’s invited and encouraged to burn up the dance floor with their moves, not their smokes. Spread the word: the more people who come, the more likely we’ll be able to bring this event back — and if you have any questions, give Laura Kane-Witkowski a call at the center (248) 398-7105 x 26. Smoke Free Bar Night At Q takes place Thursday November 20th from 8pm to midnight. Cover charge $5 donation. Q is located in downtown Ferndale at 141 West 9 Mile Rd.

Mark Your Calendars for World AIDS Day
Five people worldwide die of AIDS every minute of every day. HIV has hit every corner of the globe, infecting more than 42 million men, women and children, 5 million of them last year alone. Just as no two snowflakes are the same, we know that each life is individual and unique. Join Affirmations in celebrating “LIFE” on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2003. From December 1-31, 2003 anyone can come into the center during normal business hours and create a personalized snowflake, for a small donation, in dedication of a loved one. This would be an excellent time to visit Affirmations, enjoy a hot cup of coffee and become educated on what you can do to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Contact Kalvin Scarber at 248-398-7105 x24 or by email: for more information.

Upcoming Events & Activities:
Hungry for Healing Workshop
How much of your day do you spend criticizing your body, trying to control your willful appetite, discussing food with friends, and anguishing about exercise? Is it 40%, 60%, 80%? Now the tough question, what if you took all that energy you invest into changing your body and actually change your life or the lives of others in your community? Imagine if we all decided to do that? Eve Cribbs, MSW, CSW, will be conducting a free two-hour workshop called Hungry For Healing. It will be held at Affirmations on Monday November 17, 2003 from 7pm to 9pm. To register, call Laura Kane-Witkowski at (248) 398-7105.
