Conservatives Apply Maximum Spin to Jordan Neely Killing by White Marine, Blame Him for His Own Murder Because… Pronouns?
On May 1, Daniel Penny, a 24-year-old white man, put Jordan Neely, a 30-year-old Black man, in a chokehold on the subway in New York and killed him.
Neely, who is reported to have been unhoused and apparently having a mental health crisis, was acting erratically and yelling on the train, which one can imagine was scary for the other people on board. Based on reports of the incident it does not appear that he harmed anyone on the train or threatened to harm them.
And so Penny grabbed Neely and choked him to death in front of a train full of witnesses. So obviously Penny was immediately arrested and charged with murder and the killing has caused unanimous outrage, right?
Well, no. Penny was not immediately charged, but he is now facing second-degree murder charges. And this is too much for the exceptionally racist people who are today’s conservatives (ahem, right-wing extremists). To them Penny is a hero and should be celebrated as such.
High-profile folks are stepping up to help Penny who is truly the person who has been wronged after choking another man to death.
Kid Rock, who called Penny “a hero,” donated $5,000 to Penny’s defense fund, Rudy Giuliani said that Neely actually killed himself by struggling, and Ron DeSantis asked for donations to Penny on Twitter.
“We must defeat the Soros-Funded DAs, stop the Left's pro-criminal agenda, and take back the streets for law abiding citizens,” DeSantis tweeted. “We stand with Good Samaritans like Daniel Penny. Let’s show this Marine... America’s got his back.”
Got that? Penny, who choked a man to death on the subway, is a “good samaritan.” I didn’t know that was good Samaritan behavior, but maybe Penny helped an old lady cross the street earlier that day and that is what DeSantis is basing this on? Or maybe it’s that he’s a Marine? Or that he’s a white man who killed a Black man, a bucket-list dream of DeSantis? (Hint: It’s the last one.)
Fox and Friends host Rachel Campos-Duffy defended and praised Penny on the air. Responding to someone who said they probably wouldn’t have done what Neely did, she says, “I thought, wow, that guy definitely won’t protect me if I’m on a train and the crazy person was trying to kill me or attack me or punch me in the face, which there are plenty of videos of online of, you know, crazy people punching women in the face and then the men around them doing nothing.”
Um. OK. First of all, that’s not what Neely was doing. And no one is advocating for “crazy people” to punch women in the face, but even if they were, Campos-Duffy is literally advocating for murder, so…
Campos-Duffy continues, “There’s a really important cultural aspect. I think we live in a culture that already has a crisis of masculinity where so many young people are walking around. They don’t know, they’re gender confused. Am I a woman? Am I a man? What am I? Am I binary?”
Wait, what? Did she just spin the “subway murder in broad daylight” story into a “trans people are the problem” propaganda? Why yes, she did.
“I’ll tell you what, I want to live in a society where men are men and men understand that their job,” Campos-Duffy continues, “is to protect women and elderly in a situation like that. That young Marine did that and the fact that our society and the city might punish him for that, I think there’s going to be long term ramifications for us women.”
And I’ll tell YOU what, I definitely do NOT want to live in a society where men “protect” me by murdering unhoused people having mental health crises.
I agree that there’s a crisis of masculinity in our country. And that crisis comes from men who are so insecure that they do things like stockpile guns and join the Proud Boys or other white supremacist groups. It’s this perverse culture of toxic masculinity that the Trump presidency helped super charge. No man can truly live up to the expectations that have been set and that has made transgender people especially convenient targets of hate.
Won’t someone think of the heterosexual cisgender white men? Seriously, though. They are not OK.
