Creep of the Week: Newt Gingrich

Proposition 8 is in trouble. For those of you out of the loop, Proposition 8 is the anti-gay marriage ban that will be on the ballot in California in November. The ballot measure would over-turn the court decision to let gays and lesbians legally marry in that state.
Recent polls have shown that support from Californians for Prop 8 is slipping. This is, understandably, making supporters pretty nervous.
And so the anti-gay Prop 8 supporters have brought out the big guns: Newt Gingrich.
That's right folks. Newt "Contract On America" Gingrich.
It's a brilliant choice, really. The guy is, after all, an expert on the subject. For one thing, Newt is the brother of the out and proud lesbian Candace Gingrich, so he has had firsthand experience with gays – in a totally I-hate-my-sisterly way at least.
Secondly, Newt is an expert on marriage. After all, he's done it three times. Newt knows about defending America's most sacred institution. Why, he once had to defend his second marriage from his first marriage! His first wife was such a threat to the marriage he wanted to have instead of the one he had with her that Newt had to serve her divorce papers while she was in the hospital having chemo treatments for her cancer.
But that's not all. After his second wife got multiple sclerosis and he started sleeping with a younger and hotter House employee, he had to stop his second marriage from attacking his third.
Now that's a man dedicated to defending marriage. Kudos to the "pro-marriage" supporters of Prop 8 for snagging this guy as their spokesman and for putting his mug and message up on YouTube. A sure-fire way to reach young voters.
Against a backdrop of an American flag and the Capitol dome, a bespectacled and doughy Newt Gingrich says, "I want to talk to you about an issue that is central not just to California but to our very civilization."
He warns of the threat of "judicial tyranny" and lambastes California marriage ruling.
"Think about that," he says. "Four appointed lawyers – that's all judges are – overruled more than four million California voters."
Yeah, how dare the court find a discriminatory law passed by the majority against a minority "unconstitutional."
"Our courts have an important role to play in our government," Newt says, "but it is not their role to define American values. That right belongs to the people."
The only kind of activist judges we need on the bench are the ones against abortion and gays.
"The stakes are high and not just for California," Newt warns. "I can't overstate the danger of tyranny from elitist judges who believe they have the right and the power to dictate their values to the American people."
Newt's right. We've got to stop the judicial system before it gets too cocky. I mean, first they make gay marriage legal in California, next thing you know they'll be taking credit for things like Brown v. The Board of Education, which desegregated schools, and Loving v. Virginia, which decriminalized mixed race marriages. Those arrogant bastards. Will they never cease?
