Professional Theater News:

LANSING – BoarsHead Theater is proud to have been awarded a recent funding grant from the Actors’ Equity Foundation, the Foundation associated with Actors’ Equity Association. Founded in 1913, AEA is the labor union that represents more than 40,000 professional actors and stage managers across the United States.
AEA’s goal is to promote the art of live theater across the country “as an essential component of our society.” Equity negotiates working conditions and wages for members and is itself a member of the AFL-CIO. AEA is also affiliated with the international organization of performing arts unions, FIA.
BoarsHead Theater is one of 63 professional theaters in the United States to receive this grant from Actors’ Equity Foundation. BoarsHead joins such renowned theaters as the Manhattan Theater Club and Chicago Shakespeare in this distinction. According to Actors’ Equity President Arne Gunderson, BoarsHead Theater “was chosen not only for the work you do but the manner in which it is done, and that goes to the heart of the mission of the Foundation to aid actors and the theatrical community at large.”
The Actors’ Equity Foundation was created in 1962 to further assist actors in need, as well as promoting professional theater. The Foundation distributed over $54,000 in grants for the 2006-2007 season. “BoarsHead Theater is honored to be recognized at the national level by our union,” said Managing Director Marlene Shelton.
