Performers play dream roles in Actors' Theatre fundraiser

GRAND RAPIDS – Actors' Theatre will present a fundraiser for the theatre titled "If They'd Only Let Me." It will play one night only on Sunday, May 23 at Spectrum Theatre on the campus of Grand Rapids Community College.
This will be the third edition of this fundraiser, which was first presented in 1985 and again in 1991 by Actors' Theatre, then in the old Spectrum Theatre. The basic premise is that performers often have dream roles (or at least dream songs) that they would love to perform but will never get a chance to because it is written for a different gender or a different ethnicity – or just a different type of performer. So for one night only, none of that matters; performers are given the chance to transcend those limitations and perform a song from their "dream role."
Actors' Theatre Managing Director Fred Sebulske has invited a number of area performers to appear in this edition of "If They'd Only Let Me." At press times, performers include Alex Agaard, Christy Beatty, Carol Black, Reed Bretz, Kelly Carey, James Drummond, Mary Gamble Hyatt, Craig Hammerlind, Maureen Kirkwood, Marney MacAdam, Barbara Osburn, Jean Reed Bahle, Greg Rogers, RoseAnne Shansky, Claire Sinn, Steve Taber, Aubrey Talbott, Matthew Tepper, Jason Townes, Michael Travis, Neil Trevisan, Shelly Urbane, Brendan Van Stee, David Van Zyl, Laurie Veldheer, Lisa Whitley, and Larry Young.
Musical accompaniment will be provided by Michael Shansky.
A reception will be held in the lobby following the performance.
{ITAL The fundraiser is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Ticket prices for the show and reception are $25.00 each.
To reserve seats, please call the Actors' Theatre box office at 616-234-3946.}
