Hate group to protest 'Laramie Project' in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR – The Westboro Baptist church, comprised mainly of family members of the virulently anti-gay Fred Phelps, has announced plans to picket the Nov. 18 showing of "The Laramie Project" on Nov. 19 in Ann Arbor.
"God hates the University of Michigan, 'The Laramie Project,' and all associated therewith," a flyer issued by the organization reads. "It's too late to pray for America. It's a sin to pray for the USA."
The Westboro flyer also claims that Matthew Sheppard, who's brutal murder is the subject of the play, has been in hell for seven years.
Jackie Simpson, a spokesperson for UofM's Office of LGBT Affairs, said "We need to make sure that any show that he's protesting is completely sold out."
