Ruth Ellis Pride March. Join in one of the country's oldest black, same-gender-loving pride marches. Everyone is invited to participate with banners, J-Set performances and floats that represent small businesses, clubs, agencies and support groups. For route please visit Web site.

Interfaith Candlelight Vigil. The vigil begins with pride greetings, and a call to the ancestors and then musical performances and speech from local human rights advocate and community activist Nkenge Zola. The evening ends with the lighting of the candles ceremony in honor of those who have made their transition due to AIDS /HIV and breast cancer. Blue Spruce Memorial Tree, Palmer Park, Detroit.

Hotter Than July Official Poetry Slam. The PicNap Poetry Series host the first official Hotter Than July Poetry Slam. Black same-gender-loving, bi and transgender poets and performance artist are invited to compete to become the first grand slam champion of Detroit's annual black pride celebration. $10.00 door. Saturday, July 29, noon-8 p.m.
11th Palmer Park Festival. The pinnacle event of Detroit's 11th annual pride celebration is like a family reunion and your invited. Each year the Palmer Park Festival is host to over 10,000 folks taking a moment to celebrate culture, self-empowerment and identity. The day features music, entertainment, fashion shows, comedy, J-Set competition, a dance tent and more. Everyone is encouraged to bring your own picnic basket, maybe even pitch a tent.
