It will be 'One Wilde Night' at the Gem

PREVIEW:
'The Fifth Annual Wilde Awards'
To be presented Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the Historic Gem Theatre, 333 Madison Ave., Detroit. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvre reception begins at 6:30; awards presentations starts at 8 p.m.; a dessert afterglow follows. Tickets: $25. Advance reservations required: (888) 615-7003, ext. 50.

Will 2006 be the year five-time Wilde Awards nominee Carmen Decker finally takes home the prize for her amazing performance in "Moonglow" this past season? Will Brian Hatch, the best dressed man in improv, handsomely walk away with an award for his work in "The Christma-Hana-Kwanzaa-Holiday Spectacular"? And which show did the readers of BTL vote as their favorite production with LGBT themes?
Those are only a few of the questions that will be answered Aug. 30 when Michigan's LGBT and professional theater communities come together at Detroit's Historic Gem Theatre for The Fifth Annual Wilde Awards.
Presented by Between The Lines and sponsored by Paramount Bank and WDET 101.9FM, the eagerly-anticipated event – the area's only media-sponsored theater awards ceremony this year – acknowledges the excellent work staged by Michigan's professional theaters during the 2005/06 season. It will be a night full of good food, lively entertainment and plenty of fun, predicts BTL's co-publisher Susan Horowitz. "It's a great night for both our communities. There's always been a wonderful connection between us, and we're happy to salute the work they present year in and year out."
Winners in 13 categories will be announced at the delightfully prestigious event, along with four special awards that acknowledge the unique contributions that certain individuals and organizations have made to both communities.
"It really will be 'One Wilde Night," Horowitz said.
