The fourth annual Holiday In December black-tie affair was held Dec. 9 at the Club House for the Pine Aires Apartment community in Southfield.
Refreshments were served while DJ Corey Ward played music. There was a raffle that featured donations of an original painting of Detroit’s Eastern Market and a safer sex kit. The evening also included Christmas musical selections by Lakeysha Charee.
KICK is a 501c3 non-profit organization and an agency for LGBT African-Americans whose mission and vision include the creation of the Detroit LGBT welcome center. Other annual KICK events include The Friendship Drive; The Red Party, which is supported by Crate & Barrel and usually held during the month of February and near Valentine’s Day; The Ladies Preferred event and the Gentlemen Preferred event, set for next year in Chicago, that current Executive Director Curtis Lipscomb announced.
This year KICK was honored by being selected one of 20 non-profit organizations to receive support from Macy’s department stores’ annual Shop for a Cause fundraising event and the only LGBT-serving organization to receive support from the national retail chain.
