Dear BTL,
Gregory Wright takes aim at me in his July 14, 2005 letter for my strong language criticizing the right, but his affiliation with Log Cabin Republicans was not listed. I hold no official title with any party, but I do not apologize for attacking extremists for trying to drag America into some pre-historic puritanical version of Pleasantville. Just because Bill O'Reilly has made some supportive comments about gay rights does not mean he is our friend. It frustrates me to see gay conservatives grasping for the crumbs that occasionally fall from the mouths of demagogues. Wright is correct that I did not distinguish between far right wingers and "regular" conservatives. I don't need to because my column was not about people like Greg and my moderate Republican friends. It was about extremists. There is no need to be defensive, I was not addressing capital "R" Republicans.
