Leadership change at Michigan Equality?

Though not all details were confirmed as of press time, anonymous sources confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Derek Smiertka is no longer the executive director of Michigan Equality. The future of the organization remains uncertain.
An e-mail sent to Smiertka Tuesday morning from Between The Lines was responded to with directions to send all personal e-mail to a private address for the outgoing director. The e-mail also stated that questions and issues related to Michigan Equality should be directed to Julie Powers, the organization’s director of development.
Sources later confirmed that the reason for the e-mail was Smiertka’s exit. A replacement has not yet been found and it has not been confirmed as to whether or not a search for one will begin soon.
