Men of Mystery' heads to Ann Arbor

Neil Plakcy will be one of four mystery authors appearing at SHaut in Ann Arbor.

Four of the best practioners of the gay mystery genre join forces to talk about their new books, their hunky heroes and the future of the gay mystery at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at SHaut in Ann Arbor.
Anthony Bidulka's five-book series about Saskatchewan private-eye Russell Quant has garnered a Lambda Literary Award and critical acclaim. "Aloha, Candy Hearts" moves from Pacific to Prairie, as a teasing treasure hunt turns into a frightening game of cat and mouse. PI Russell Quant is plunged into the vagaries of a shocking hometown murder and the blasphemous blackmail of one of the literary world's most esteemed writers.
In Greg Herren's "Murder in the Garden District," another hurricane is heading toward the Katrina-ravaged city of New Orleans, and it's up to Chanse MacLeod to dig through decades of murders and cover-ups to find the truth before more lives are ruined … including his own and those close to him.
Neil Plakcy's fourth mystery, "Mahu Vice," is a ripped-from-the-headlines look at sexual obsession, the criminal mind and the price of life in paradise. Honolulu homicide detective Kimo Kanapa'aka must work with his ex-boyfriend to solve an arson-homicide in which a Chinese teen was killed. Both of them struggle to put aside lingering emotions and focus on an investigation into prostitution, illegal immigration and a repeated pattern of arson.
"Hook, Line and Homicide" is Mark Richard Zubro's 20th mystery novel and the ninth in a series following Chicago homicide detective Paul Turner. Mixing humor and social concerns, Zubro also has written 11 books about amateur sleuths Tom Mason, a high school teacher and Scott Carpenter, a professional baseball player.
