Motor City Pride garbage

Each year Zion Lutheran Church in Ferndale opens their parking lot without charge to people attending Motor City Pride. Zion is a fully inclusive congregation, welcoming people of all sexual orientations and gender expressions. This year the pastors came back to church on Monday morning with a parking lot full of trash, bottles and broken glass. The same situation was found in the First United Methodist Church parking lot.
While Motor City Pride may connote pride, I have never found pride to be connected with a disrespect for other people or their property. In years past, we have not had the issue of trash on our grounds. It would be tragic to see Motor City Pride degenerate from a moment of pride in self, others and community to an event of complete self-centeredness.

Respectfully,
Pr. John Meulendyk
Zion Lutheran Church (ELCA) Ferndale
