Last week, your story “Community gears up for second paretn adoption lobby day,” prompted a lively discussion at our dinner table. My partner and I are raising three teenagers, and my daughter starting asking all sorts of questions about what would happen to her if something happened to one of us. I pulled out my BTL and turned to the story. She read it and now she wants to go to Lansing to lobby.
Thanks for the story. It gave us a vehicle to discuss what we as a couple have already done to protect our children should the unthinkable happen. It also gave our daughter a way to express not only her insecurity about our family’s status, but also a new-found eagerness to fight for what she perceives to be her rights as a child of a gay couple.
Keep up the good work!
