October conference to address gay and lesbian parenting

"Through the Kaleidoscope: Rainbow Families in the 21st Century" will take place at the Michigan league on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor on Oct. 23. Workshops for parents and children and a family dance are among the planned activities.
Joe Kort, MSW will present the keynote address to the conference, "Do your homo-work! Our kids, our reactions, and homophobia."
According to Kort, "As lesbians and gays, we were not taught how to handle homophobia as children, rendering us ill-equipped in how to protect our own children. This lecture will address these issues and help identify effective ways to create a safe, supportive and nurturing household for both queer parents and their children."
This educational conference is organized by the Lesbian Moms' Network of Washtenaw County, financially supported by The U-M Women's Health Program, and co-sponsored with the Papa-Dads Group, Coalition for Adoption Rights Equality, and the Washtenaw Rainbow Action Project. Specific workshops and location of the dance TBA.
