Phantom' Cast to Perform Jan. 28 Benefit Concert of 'Next to Normal' for Affirmations, Broadway Cares

FERNDALE – Cast members of the national touring production of "The Phantom of the Opera" — coming to Detroit Jan. 24 to Feb. 3 at the Detroit Opera House — will perform a special concert to benefit Affirmations and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The event takes place at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 at The Loving Touch in Ferndale.
"Next to Normal" is a 2008 American rock musical that tells the story of a mother who struggles with mental health problems. Along with the performance the evening will feature live and silent auctions, raffle and cash bar. Admission is a $20 suggested donation and tickets are available at Affirmations, located at 290 West Nine Mile Road in Ferndale, at the Woodward Avenue Brewers box office, located at 22646 Woodward Ave.
The cast performing "Next to Normal" is involved in Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" makes its triumphant return to Detroit as part of its North American Tour. Critics are raving that this breathtaking production is "bigger and better than ever before" and features a brilliant new scenic design by Paul Brown, Tony Award-winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award-winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler and new staging by director Laurence Connor.
The production, overseen by Matthew Bourne and Cameron Mackintosh, boasts many exciting special effects including the show's legendary chandelier. The beloved story and thrilling score – with songs like "Music of the Night," "All I Ask Of You," and "Masquerade" – will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this Phantom one of the largest productions now on tour.
