DETROIT – Calling him steady, thoughtful and smart, Equality Michigan Executive Director Stephanie White officially endorsed Pat Miles and his run to become Michigan's next Attorney General.
"As an LGBT activist, I am proud to support Pat Miles as our next Attorney General," White said. "It will take careful, methodical, focused work to actually change our laws to treat LGBT people equally in this state. I know that Pat understands that, and he's ready to work for it."
White believes in Miles' track record of defending the LGBT community, noting his calls to end unethical conversion therapy practices in Michigan and his strong opposition of Gov. Rick Snyder's anti-LGBT appointee to the state's Civil Rights Commission.
"When we've needed Pat, he's been there," said White. "He's been strong and quick to stand with us to say, 'No. When I'm Attorney General, this stuff won't go unanswered in our state.'"
"I'm humbled to have received an endorsement from Stephanie White — a tough advocate and leader in Michigan's LGBT community," Miles said. "I believe every person deserves equal protection under the law, no matter who they are or who they love. As Attorney General, I will continue working with activists and elected officials to advocate for LGBT Michiganders and champion the protections everyone deserves."
Miles has also been endorsed by the UAW, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, IBEW, Pipefitters Local 636, former Detroit Mayor and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Dennis Archer, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, retired U.S. Sen. Carl Levin and former U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade, among others.
