Quit - with some help from Affirmations

FERNDALE –
Affirmations is now offering free nicotine patches and smoking cessation counseling for individuals making a commitment to go smoke free in their lives. The nicotine patches were provided by the Michigan Department of Community Health, Tobacco Division.
"We are delighted to offer this service to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community with the support of MDCH Tobacco Division," said London Bell, Health & Human Services coordinator at Affirmations. "It's our hope that by having these services available, people who might not normally be able to afford nicotine patches, will take advantage of this free service and take charge of their health."
According to leading health experts, in addition to personal health advantages, a smoke-free home and car also improve the health and living conditions of friends and family members who share the same spaces. With a smoke-free home and car: friends and family will breathe easier, have fewer colds and illnesses and are less likely to get cancer or heart disease. Hair, clothes, and furniture smell fresher and cleaner and one's home and car will be easier to clean and stay clean longer.
And in this economy, having a smoke-free home on the market may also improve the odds of selling your house. Not to mention that at close to $6 per pack, quitting smoking could prove to be a big help to saving money.
And Affirmations is here to help.
In addition to nicotine patches and smoking cessation counseling, Affirmations offers smoking quit kits, which consist of a piece of candy, a wristband, quit smoking tips and referrals to the Michigan Tobacco Quit Line. The Michigan Tobacco Quit Line and Affirmations' tobacco use cessation project are funded by the Michigan Department of Community Health.
