FERNDALE – Tens of thousands of LGBT and allied people descended upon downtown Ferndale on June 6 for the annual Motor City Pride festival.
Despite intermittent rain, attendees danced, drank and partied on.
Throughout the seven-hour celebration, they enjoyed numerous vendors and foods, live musical and drag performances and a feeling of community hard to find anywhere but at a Pride festival.
The event stretched down Nine Mile Road from Woodward Avenue all the way to Livernois, featuring representation from non-profits, political campaigns and gay-related businesses. Equality Michigan showed off their new name and logo, while Transgender Michigan boasted news about their upcoming move to their first-ever office, to be located in Ferndale. Volunteers gathered support for such politicians as Oakland County Commissioner Dave Coulter, running for Michigan's state Senate, and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, who's making a Democratic run for governor of Michigan this year.
Lady Gaga-dressed dancers commanded the dance floor, while the Killer Flamingos rocked a drenched – but still excited – crowd to close out the day.
