Pronto!, a gay-owned restaurant and bakery in Royal Oak, has committed 10 percent of all food, drink and carry-out sales on Dec. 2 to a non-profit neighbor in Ferndale.
Affirmations is metro Detroit’s community center for LGBT people and their allies. Located in Ferndale, the center provides space for group meetings, community events and socialization opportunities.
The center plans to utilize the Pronto! contribution to directly benefit its youth program.
Several activities are planned throughout the course of the day, including goodie and treat basket raffles, drink specials and karaoke. Affirmations CEO Leslie Ann Thompson will be featured as guest bartender for the evening.
“We’re excited to partner with such an established and celebrated restaurant in the metro Detroit area,” said Affirmations Special Events Manager Carrie Copeland. “Pronto! has been a long time supporter of Affirmations and we are grateful for the opportunity to be the recipient of one of Pronto!’s Honor Days.”
Representatives from Affirmations will be present to answer questions, give away prizes and conduct various raffle drawings, including an iPod giveaway.
“This wonderful opportunity comes at a time when giving is crucial to the
center,” added Thompson. “Affirmations must meet its year end goal of $189,000 in order to maintain the current level of programs and services that so many people depend on. Today’s current economic climate only motivates us to find more creative ways to meet these difficult yet ambitious goals.”
Pronto! will be serving food from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., with the bar
remaining open until 2 a.m. Happy hour will occur from 5-7 p.m. and
will feature $2 beers, $3 drafts and $4 cocktails. Karaoke will
kick off at 10 p.m., following the viewing of the most recent episode of hit Fox
TV show (and gay favorite), “Glee.”
Sponsors for the all-day event include LGBT employee resource groups BEYOND, of Ernst & Young, GM Plus of General Motors and Comerica LGBT Alliance MI, of Comerica Bank.
