Calla (Cal) Adams, the subject of last week's Parting Glances, died suddenly of a massive stroke at age 80 last Tuesday, just one day before the column appeared. Cal lived a proud, happy, productive life as a Black gay man, an educator, a humanist — and as someone whose thirst for knowledge and the enjoyment of art, music, literature, and philosophy remained with him right up until his passing. He will be missed by many friends, colleagues, and neighbors of the Wayne State University/Cultural Center area — who were privileged to know him and to share his insights, humor, and gentle way of looking at life and loving the crazy, mixed-up world around us. He was truly one of a kind.
Sad note of passing
