DETROIT – April is National Poetry Month and D'Anne Witkowski, BTL's managing editor by day, poet by night, will be reading during the Second Thursday Poetry Series at Detroit's Scarab Club on Thursday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. An open mic will follow hosted by Michigan poet Cheri L. Roberts. The public is invited to participate.
Witkowski has been writing poetry since the 8th grade. "Though thankfully both my poetry and my hair have improved since then," she says. Witkowski likes to incorporate humor in her writing even though her poems aren't always funny. She graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2003. In September she will attend the University of Michigan to get her MFA in creative writing.
Cheri L. Roberts is a poet, poetry performance teacher and tutor of poetry. She received her MFA from Vermont College in January of 2005 and is currently working as Writer in Residence with the Inside Out Literary Arts Program and is on the advisory board of the Springfed Arts Metro Detroit Writers.
