Sugg honored as outstanding ally

Jeff Sugg, President and CEO of Paramount Bank, received the Lorna G. Utley Outstanding Ally Award at the Affirmations big Bash event March 30. The award was presented by Utley herself, who said, "Jeff is so committed to inclusiveness he agreed to star in the a bank training video on diversity dressed in a Richard Simmons-esque outfit complete with wig, short shorts and tank top. Trust me – that is someone who is dedicated."
In 2005, Sugg started an LGBT advisory panel at Paramount Bank that meets monthly to discuss the issues facing the community, and how the bank can better serve the needs of its LGBT customers. Sugg attends all these meetings. Under his leadership, Paramount Bank has become the largest corporate sponsor for Affirmations programs and services, after the Big Three. Parmount also sponsors Hotter than July!, Motor City Pride, the Ruth Ellis Center, Ties Like Me, Midwest AIDS Prevention Program, and the Jewish Gay Network.
"We talk about our straight allies 'getting it,' and it is clear that Jeff 'gets it' even to the point of speaking up at his church when he didn't support the direction they were going regarding gay issues," said Utley.
