The Whiting presents the most colorful musical ever

FLINT – The most colorful musical ever, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" is coming to The Whiting on Friday, April 6 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 7 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" is a rainbow ride through biblical Egypt on the wings of Andrew Lloyd Webber's (composer of "Cats," "Phantom of the Opera," "Evita") uplifting music and the humor and poetry of lyricist Tim Rice (Oscar-winning lyricist of Disney's "Aladdin" and "The Lion King"). This irresistible musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel's favorite son, paints a picture of betrayal and hardship, prophecy and forgiveness. Directed by Dallet Norris ("Oliver," "South Pacific," "Camelot") and choreographed by Arlene Phillips ("Grease," "Starlight Express," "We Will Rock You"), this "Joseph" cannot be missed.
This blockbuster musical combines pop, country, rock, and other styles for a multi-textured palette of sound. Originally written as a 15-minute pop-cantata for a children's choir, this biblical musical has become one of America's favorite shows.
The free-roaming score parodies French cabaret music as Joseph's brothers urge everyone to "raise your berets to those Canaan days." It also borrows freely from country-western music as the brothers lament that there's "One More Angel in Heaven" and gets into the "island spirit" with a number titled "Benjamin's Calypso." An Elvis-like Pharaoh even gets into the act as he struts and dances like another recognizable "king" while reliving his haunting dreams.
Ticket prices range from $19 to $59 and are available online at http://TheWhiting.com and by phone at 810-237-7333 or 888-8-CENTER. The Whiting is located at 1241 E. Kearsley Street in Flint, just off I-475 between the University of Michigan Flint and Mott Community College on the Flint Cultural Center campus.
