Together in Faith reception to feature local artists

YPSILANTI – On Aug. 5, the Together in Faith conference, a national gathering of LGBT and allied people of faith, will kick off with a reception at the historic First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti. The reception, which is free and open to the public, will feature conference speakers and local artists. Musical acts will include A capella Ensemble, gospel vocal duo Bridgewater, the classical String Trio and Jean Mackey and Friends singing spirit-filled numbers. Lori Fithian, founder and director of Drummunity! will close the evening with a lively participatory drum circle. Food will be donated by local businesses.
The second annual Together in Faith conference will be held in McKenny Union at Eastern Michigan University Aug. 5-7. It is hosted by the Faith Action Network, a project of the Michigan office of The American Friends Service Committee Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues Program. Together in Faith will bring together LGBT and allies of all ages, races, and spiritual backgrounds. Conference speakers include the Rabbi Michael Lerner and the Reverend Barry Lynn.
