Two tigers, two gays and too much fun

So maybe Rev. Jerry Falwell WAS correct – that gays really ARE the cause of America's ills that brought on the tragedy of 9/11.
Okay. I'm joking about that. And so, too, is the cast of "To Catch a President," the very funny original comedy directed by Pj Jacokes that's playing every Sunday at 6 p.m. at The Second City in Novi.
In a rapid-fire succession of approximately 20 skits, Jacokes' talented ensemble dissects the war that's brewing in America while that OTHER war simmers in Iraq. Some will have partisans on both sides of the aisle nodding with glee – such as in a televised presidential debate in which the participants are a milquetoast liberal, a gung-ho conservative and a sweet independent grandmother everyone loves. Another recalls the horrors of turning 30.
But the show's highlight is the continuing saga of Robert (Bryan Lark) and Neil (Garrett Fuller), a gay couple whom the CIA has identified as the cause of every major tragedy suffered by America since they met and got frisky with each other. It's sharply written, it makes its point – and the two actors fully commit to their roles. (That kiss! WOW!)
An hour earlier in the evening, Lauren Bickers and Cara Trautman storm the stage in "A Tale of Two Tigers," a whirlwind look at relationships through "sketches and a little bit of dance." Staged by Nate DuFort, it's one of the fastest hours of sketch comedy you'll ever see, with more chuckles per minute than what's probably legal. But more importantly, this often politically incorrect – but oh-so clever – peek at the bright and murky corners of friendship serves to showcase the extraordinary talents of these young, incredible women. (Their character development is especially notable.)

'A Tale of Two Tigers' & 'To Catch a President'
