Volunteer during June Pride Month

BTL needs you

Between The Lines is doing an exciting "2012 Voter Education Project," which will kick-off on June 2-3 at Motor City Pride in Hart Plaza and continue throughout June and July at Pride events around the state. This project is a unique opportunity for pride-goers to receive information about pro-LGBT candidates and send a message to the Michigan Supreme Court that we stand for fairness for all. All that attendees need to do is sign a simple pledge to educate themselves on the candidates and issues important to the LGBT community and to vote accordingly this November.
Signers of the pledge will help send a resounding message to the Michigan Supreme Court, and be signed up to receive the BTL Voter Guide which the paper has produced since 1996. The 2012 Voter Guide, published this October, will assist Michiganders in answering the question: Who do I need to vote for if I want to see a pro-LGBT majority in office?
BTL is fully dedicated to bringing the Voter Guide to as many of the tens of thousands of attendees of Michigan's Pride festivals as possible.
But BTL needs help. To reach and circulate this pledge successfully, BTL needs a lot of volunteers who are willing to reach out to pride-goers and ask them to sign a petition that reads: "PLEDGE: TO THE MICHIGAN SUPREME COURT: We stand for fairness for all Michiganders: no one should be discriminated against just because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT). No one should have to change who they are to be treated fairly: don't change yourself, change the law! We commit to educate ourselves on the candidates and issues important to the LGBT community, and to vote accordingly this November."

BTL will be collecting signatures to this petition at the following Pride celebrations:
Motor City Pride (Detroit's Hart Plaza, June 2-3)
Kalamazoo Pride (June 9)
West Michigan Pride (Grand Rapids, June 16)
Michigan Pride March, Rally & Festival (Lansing, June 16)
Ferndale Pride (June 17)
Hotter Than July (Detroit's Palmer Park, July 24-29)

Volunteers will be asked to help for a 2 to 3 hour shift. Each volunteer will receive a T-Shirt, snacks, water and our sincere thanks for helping make a difference in Michigan.
