Volunteers needed for Trans Day of Empowerment planning

Transgender Detroit is looking for organizations and individuals who would like to get involved in planning this year's Transgender Day of Empowerment, scheduled to be held in late April.
Transgender Detroit Executive Director Michelle Fox-Phillips said that the organization is looking for a "cross-section of the TLGB community" to participate in planning workshops for the day of events.
The Transgender Day of Empowerment started out three years ago to counter the Transgender Day of Remembrance. The Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to recall all of the lives lost to violence against transgender people. The Day of Empowerment has focused, conversely, on encouraging trans people to talk about and work on issues of importance to them as activists. It teaches through workshops and community discussions. Some of the past workshops have dealt with gender therapy, workplace issues and gender insurance.
Workshop and other suggestions are welcome, even from those not looking to be involved as volunteers. To get involved, contact Fox-Phillips at 248-514-2688, or by e-mail at [email protected].
