Wayne State University to Host Debate about Religious Liberty and Discrimination in the Masterpiece Cakeshop Case

Press Release:

Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, 6 – 8 p.m.

David Adamany Undergraduate Library
Bernath Auditorium, 5155 Gullen Mall, Detroit.

This spring the U.S. Supreme Court will decide the case of Masterpiece Cakeshop, in which a baker declined to provide a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, citing his religious convictions and free-speech rights; the baker was found liable for sexual-orientation discrimination under Colorado law. In this debate, John Corvino, Ryan T. Anderson, and Sherif Girgis—co-authors of the new book Debating Religious Liberty and Discrimination—will discuss the case in the context of more general principles about liberty, equality, and tolerance.

A book signing will follow. This event is free and open to the public.
