World AIDS Day dinner and services

FERNDALE –
Ferndale will host a dinner and an ecumenical service being held in two churches that sit next to each other on Woodward Ave. as part of World AIDS Day activities this Saturday.
Ferndale First United Methodist Church at 22331 Woodward Ave. will host a lasagna dinner for $7 per person, raising money for WAGS (Wonderful Animals Giving Support), a program of Midwest AIDS Prevention Project (MAPP). Open to the public, the fundraiser helps keep people living with HIV and their animal companions together. Rev. Dennis Paulsen from the church will host the event, which begins at 6 p.m.
Following the dinner, participants will hold a candlelight march to Zion Lutheran Church, immediately next door on Woodward Ave. There an ecumenical service will be held with a half dozen visiting clergy and choirs from around the region including Detroit. Following this service, a buffet and reception will be held downstairs at Zion. These events are at no charge.
All events are open to the public. Everyone is welcome. Sponsors include Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit.
An estimated 34 million people worldwide are infected with the virus that causes AIDS, including 16,000 in Michigan.
