Ann Arbor

Anchored by the University of Michigan and home to a well-known “gayborhood” in Braun Court, Ann Arbor is ranked as the second most LGBT-friendly city in Michigan by the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index.

Braun Court, located directly across the street from Kerrytown and the Farmer’s Market, is home to the LGBT-focused Jim Toy Community Center, Trillium Real Estate, Common Language LGBT Bookstore and \aut\Bar, a dedicated LGBT bar in the city since 1995.

LGBT people can be open and accepted in most any social environment here where there are abundant opportunities to enjoy arts and culture with dozens of unique galleries, and a variety of museums all within the downtown area — including the distinguished University of Michigan Museum of Art. Some of the most recognizable traditions include the Ann Arbor Art Fair and OUTFest, an annual LGBT pride celebration hosted by JTCC. Located in the heart of Ann Arbor’s entertainment district, Necto Nightclub has been running the premier LGBT club night every Friday known as PRIDE Night nonstop since 1984.

Between its beautiful parks, incredible array of unique shops and diverse restaurants – including the famous Zingerman’s Deli – Ann Arbor is a thriving example of colorful urban living.

Iglesia Martell Law Firm understands the needs of the LGBT community. We have been advocates and representatives for the LGBT community for over 28 years. The myriad of legal issues facing LGBT individuals and couples remain volatile. LGBT clients are the only ones whose legal status and legal rights are dependent on where they live, visit or travel. Additionally, there are challenges facing the community, including the basic rights concerning our children and our property. Iglesia Martell Law Firm seeks to transform the practice of law through education and support of holistic practice.

Quaker/Friends meet for unprogrammed, silent worship 9 and 11 a.m. Sundays, 7:45 and 11 a.m. on 3rd Sundays. Friends believe that the chief end for each human being is to grow continuously in the knowledge and love of God, in integrity of life, and in pure love towards all God's creatures. We believe that participation in a religious society, in worship and fellowship, is an essential means of promoting this divine growth. We practice a simple waiting worship, without outward sacraments, liturgy, program, priest, or professional minister. Out of the silence may come spoken ministry, which is a sharing of the Inner Light.

BTL to Host Final Farewell Party for Common Language Bookstore Dec. 15

By |

After 27 years as a beacon for those in Ann Arbor's and Southeast Michigan's LGBTQ community, Common Language Bookstore will be forced to close its doors one final time at the end of 2018. According to husbands and co-owners Keith Orr and Martin Contreras, this comes after years of market pressures that have made running the store unsustainable.
