Swordfighting Demonstration to be held at UofM April 7

ANN ARBOR – Students from Aegis Consulting will hold a demonstration of Western European Swordfighting on the University of Michigan Ann Arbor Diag from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, April 7.
Those who have visited a Renaissance Festival may think they're familiar with swordfighting – but they're not, according to Aegis Consulting founder and President Sal Sanfratello, Jr.
"Much of the fighting one sees at a Ren Faire is staged. That's fun, but it won't help you in a real-life self-defense situation. Western European Swordfighting, though, is a valuable martial art that teaches self-confidence, situational awareness, and basic self defense skills," said Sanfratello, whose family has been teaching swordfighting for over five hundred years.
Aegis students at the demo have been taking the class for a minimum of six months and have graduated from the Basic program. They will demonstrate skills with sword and shield, knife fighting, hand-to-hand self-defense and other medieval weapons. All of the "weapons" are hand-made, padded prototypes
In addition to its swordfighting program, Aegis Consulting offers classes including Operations Management and a range of Outdoors courses. Classes in Basic Swordsmanship, Woodsmanship, and Operations Management will begin in May. Classes are held in Pinckney for six-month terms. Call 734-645-2265, email
