Marriage equality debate at CMU April 18

MOUNT PLEASANT – The ongoing debate over civil unions and marriage equality will make its way to Central Michigan University April 18, when the university hosts a civil debate between experts on both sides of the issue.
John Corvino, a Wayne State University faculty member, and Glenn Stanton, a Focus on the Family senior official, will debate whether marriage equality is good for society. The discussion will take place at 7 p.m. April 18 in the Bovee University Center Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
Corvino is an assistant professor of philosophy at Wayne State University. A graduate of St. John's University and the University of Texas at Austin, he is an expert in several subjects, including ethics, applied ethics and early modern philosophy. He also is the author of numerous articles about morality, homosexuality and business ethics, among other topics, and has presented papers and delivered lectures throughout North America.
Stanton is Focus on the Family's senior marriage and sexuality analyst and director of global insight for cultural and family renewal. He is the author of "Why Marriage Matters: Reasons to Believe in Marriage in Postmodern Society" (NavPress, 1997). He has published articles in a number of magazines and is a graduate of the University of West Florida.
The debate is sponsored by CMU's Office of Gay and Lesbian Programs, Center for Professional and Personal Ethics, Gay Straight Alliance, Affirmative Action Office, College Democrats, College Republicans, Student Budget Allocation Committee, and University Events.
