AIDS service organization shows off new digs

By Dawn Wolfe Gutterman

DETROIT – Health Emergency Lifeline Program moved to a new location in December, and on June 9 the AIDS service provider is hosting an Open House to re-introduce itself to the community.
"This is an opportunity for other community organizations and agencies to learn more about us and meet our staff," said Executive Director Teresa Roscoe about the event, which will take place from Noon to 5 p.m.
HELP offers a food bank and emergency financial services including money for rent, utility payments, and medications for people living with AIDS. In its new, larger home, the agency is also offering financial and nutritional classes and working with DTE Energy's THAW program to help low-income people living with AIDS pay their heating bills.
According to Board Chair Anthony Williams, the agency moved because the Archdiocese of Detroit closed their former home.
During the open house, staff and board members will be on hand to answer questions and light refreshments will be served.
HELP is located at 1726 Howard in Detroit. For more information about the agency or the open house call 313-832-3300.
