Matrix Theatre Company hosts benefit for Sanchez family March 31

DETROIT – A benefit performance of "Jesus in the Hood" will take place Saturday March 31 in honor of Christian Sanchez, a 13-year-old Academy of the America's student who was killed February 11 in Southwest Detroit. Matrix Theatre Company is dedicating the 8 p.m. performance to Christian in response to the devastating impact on the Sanchez family. The performance is at the Odd Fellows Hall located in southwest Detroit at 8701 West Vernor, at the corner of Vernor and Lawndale.
"Jesus in the Hood," an updated version of Jesus' life based on the Gospel according to Luke as translated by Metro Detroit youth, heralds the message that Christ can be found in everyone from the most famous to the most forgotten, even gang kids.
Originally written in 1996 by youth groups from St. Anne's Church, other Metro Detroit Churches and Matrix Theatre Company, this 2007 production includes a former gang member. The production imparts a wonderful message as it also addresses the harsh reality of many Detroit youth.
Ticket prices for the performance are $15 for adults and $10 for students. All proceeds from the performance will go to the Sanchez family.
Please call 313-967-0599 to reserve tickets.
