Ella Fitzgerald-inspired singer to perform at Creole Gallery

Singer-songwriter Rachael Davis will bring her genre-hopping style to the Creole Gallery in Lansing at 7 p.m. Feb. 5. Davis will perform as part of The Grand River Radio music series sponsored by the Creole Gallery and Lansing Community College's FM station.
The Lansing-born performer spent almost six years of her life in Chicago before her parents – musicians as well – settled in Cadillac, where she was constantly nurtured and encouraged by family, friends, and other respectable musicians. When Davis was eight she was singing on second stage at Wheatland Music Festival.
The Irish singer Maura O'Connell was just backstage. When Davis walked off stage, Maura went up to her and grasped Davis' face with both hands and said, "Never stop doing it for the love of it!"
Her influences range from the jazz stylings of Ella Fitzgerald to the soulful vocals of folkie Patty Griffin – with many more in between. She is a contemporary songwriter but is equally at home singing anything from traditional ballads to Cole Porter to Joe Henry.
Tickets for Rachael Davis' performance are $12 each.
