Seeking 'Rakers Who CARE'

The Coalition for Adoption Rights Equality, a children's advocacy group working to secure the legal recognition of parent-child relationships in all families regardless of the parents' marital status or sexual orientation, is looking for volunteers.
Rakers, to be exact.
Rakers will be asked to commit to four hours of raking. They will work in teams, each with a team captain. Event organizers will provide team captains with instructions and team captains will relay that information to team members. Raking will be done for households in the Ann Arbor area. Raking has already started, but will also take place on these upcoming weekend days: Oct. 24, 25 and 31 and Nov. 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29.
All proceeds will go to CARE, which is working to pass a bill that would allow for two unmarried parents to jointly adopt a child from foster care, and would also allow an already existing parent to consent to his or her partner to adopt the child they are raising together. The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Alma Wheeler-Smith and has passed the Judiciary Committee.
According to CARE, "In Michigan, some children have two parents, yet only one is legally recognized. Children need to have a legal relationship with both of their parents as it guarantees the children a host of legal and financial benefits and provides security."
