Obituary: Douglas Pizzala

Doug Pizzala of Pleasant Ridge died on Monday, Oct. 26 at Henry Ford Hospital. Mr. Pizzala was the longtime companion of Ken Pape, HIV/AIDS coordinator for the State of Michigan Department of Human Services. Pizzala turned 58 on Monday.
Pizzala graduated from Central Michigan University cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. He was employed by the AIDS Consortium of Southeast Michigan from 1996 to 2002. Most recently he served as the administrative director at AIDS Partnership Michigan where he was employed for the past seven years.
Pizzala was well known in the AIDS Partnership office for his wry sense of humor and his love of Broadway musicals. Broadway music was frequently heard playing in his office. He rarely missed movie openings, and was a frequent viewer of Turner Classic Movies.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by William Sullivan and Son Funeral Home in Royal Oak at 248-541-7000.
