MDSL kicks off 25th anniversary season

DETROIT – The Metro Detroit Softball League, Detroit's only gay and lesbian softball league, kicked off its 25th season with a party on April 30 at the Rainbow Room, as well as their first game of the season on May 2. From May through the end of August, each team in the league will be guaranteed to play two games on Sundays at Borden Park in Rochester Hills.
MDSL was formed in 1985 and includes 22 teams and over 425 players.
"We are excited to kick off a great season and celebrate 25 years of supporting the metro Detroit GLTB community," said Chris Harris, tournament director of MDSL. "We welcome new members and company sponsorships to help make this a fun, successful and unforgettable season.

"Five years ago this league had seven teams playing every Sunday, and a total of 130 players involved in the league," he added. "Today we have 22 teams, and over 425 players."
To close out the season, on Labor Day weekend, MDSL will host the annual Midwest Invitational Softball Tournament. MIST was formed by leagues in Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh with the purpose of promoting and encouraging a closer and more enjoyable community in an atmosphere of friendly sports competition. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available.
"We are eager to host the MIST tournament and demonstrate our Detroit hospitality," said Harris. "This is a great opportunity for our community to showcase Detroit and its surrounding cities to visiting softball players and their guests from across the nation and Canada."
