The Jewish Gay Network of Michigan and Congregation Beth Ahm, a Conservative synagogue in West Bloomfield, will co-host "Being Jewish, Being Gay: A Conversation" at 7:30 p.m. July 15, at Congregation Beth Ahm, located at 5075 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield.
The event will mark the first time in Michigan, that an LGBT group and a conservative Jewish synagogue will present a program together where the focus will be on ways to welcome LGBT Jews into the community.
"I think that gathering together to hear personal stories from gay Jews and their families is a great opportunity to hear where we are succeeding as a community and where we need to continue to welcome gay Jews more actively," commented Rabbi Steven Rubenstein of Congregation Beth Ahm.
"The goal of the Jewish Gay Network of Michigan is a community without closets – the creation of a safe and welcoming community," added Judy Lewis, director of the JGN.
The evening will feature a panel discussion comprised of gay and lesbian parents, the father of a gay son and Rabbi Rubenstein, followed by a Q&A forum. Light refreshments will be served.
